Central Coast Beaches NSW






Terrigal Beach
One of the best-known of the Central Coast beaches is Terrigal Beach.  Terrigal is a cosmopolitan seaside town With magnificent pine trees, alfresco dining and a shopping strip of boutique stores.  The whole place is alive with activity. The year-round patrolled beach provides a safe swimming environment for young families. Join in on a surf lesson with the Central Coast Surf School for some great fun and safe tuition. The Haven is the town’s small harbour which is a popular place to dive.

Copacabana Beach
Copacabana Beach is just a few kilometres south of Avoca and is a popular patrolled surfing beach for the whole family on holidays as it suits all levels of surfer. Copa also features a popular whale viewing platform. During the winter months between late May and early August, the humpback whales can be seen migrating through the warmer waters off the Central Coast off Three Points. The whales often come quite close to the coastline feeding on the plentiful food provided by the Northerly currents at that time of year.

Ocean Beach
Located in between Umina Beach and Ettalong Beach at the Southern end of the Central Coast, it is  nestled within the protection of Broken Bay and has more than two kilometres of soft, golden sand on which to play, laze and to enjoy. It provides the spectacle of an ocean beach but combines that with the safety of an inland waterway offering ideal conditions for people wanting to learning to surf.

The Entrance Beach
The Entrance beach is a popular stop for beach lovers. It is within a comfortable walking distance of many attractions and facilities including the sea baths, the coastal boardwalk, a children's playground and park, an undercover BBQ area which also has picnic tables, shops, cafes and restaurants plus the weekend markets with their live entertainment. Tuggerah Lake and The Entrance Channel are an absolute paradise for boaties and anglers with boat ramps and several boat hire outlets.

Umina Beach
Umina Beach offers outstanding views over Bouddi National Park, Lobster Beach and Lion Island.  The spectacular Mt Ettalong lookout is close by.  Umina Beach is considered to be a reasonably safe surfing beach.  Lessons are available through the Central Coast Surf School plus there is a rock pool located at the Southern end of the beach.  The beach backs onto the large Recreation Reserve which is a lovely grassed area and has a skate ramp, children’s playground, picnic facilities, tennis courts and a surf club.

Soldier’s Beach
Nestled at the picturesque Norah Head, Soldiers beach is one of the few Central Coast beaches where people do not live.  There are no shopping centres to get in your way and not even any accommodation.  It is as natural as you will find on the New South Wales Central Coast.  To best enjoy the amazing view of the NSW Coast, head to the highest point of the beach which is at the Northern most tip.

Avoca Beach
Avoca Beach forms a major part of the great surfing and holiday resort strip which stretches along the coastline from The Entrance right down to Macmasters Beach.  Its wooded hills and soft, white sandy beaches are a popular destination for people from Sydney’s and Newcastle. Avoca Beach sites between two impressive rocky headlands. Whilst the quality and size of the surf varies from one end of the beach to the other, it suits the beginner through to the more experienced surfer.  It is also ideal for fishing and recreational swimming for all ages.

North Avoca
This beach is ideal for the more experienced surfer due to the powerful northeasterly swells that provide much pleasure to the more experienced surfers.  North Avoca Beach offers them the ultimate surfing conditions.  Nestled between Terrigal Beach and Avoca Beach, it is also a perfect location for a beach walk. Although patrolled, visitors are warned to keep an eye out for rips which you will find are generally located at the Northern end. Also,  there is a popular dog walking area located between Avoca and North Avoca Beaches so be sure to bring pooch for a run as well.

Toowoon Bay
Toowoon Bay Beach received an award in 2007 for being Australia’s Cleanest Beach.  As well as winning this prestigious award, it also received the title of being the Friendliest Beach for its commitment to safety and visitor hospitality. Toowoon Bay Beach is a picturesque, horseshoe-shaped protected beach which is ideal for families. The small bay is surrounded by a reef which becomes exposed at low tide offering protection from the ocean swells and providing safer, family friendly, swimming conditions. Ample parking is generally available and a very nice grassy reserve is situation right next to the beach making it perfect for family picnics.

Macmasters Beach
Regarded as one of the region’s truly unspoilt and most beautiful beaches, this small beach and tidal pool is situated within beautiful surroundings. Bordered by Bouddi National Park this beach can be reached by bushwalking trails.

Shelly Beach
Shelly Beach is a popular Central Coast surfing beach located close to The Entrance, Long Jetty and Bateau Bay.  Shelly Beach features some great rock walks which are popular for exploring.   It is popular for all that it offers including some great accommodation plus the pleasure for some of major shopping centres close by.

Killcare Beach
Regarded by critics as one of the top ten Australian beaches, Killcare Beach maintains its beauty and seclusion. The beach is known as being family friendly as it is protected from the Northeast and Easterly swells and has rock pools in which the children and family can to play.  The surf ca, at times, be challenging even for the higher level surfer however there are safer swimming areas at the Southern end of the beach.  Bouddi National Park is considered to be one of the most beautiful and scenic National Parks on the coast of NSW and it borders Killcare Beach on either end providing bushwalkers with a great range of trails to follow and explore. Camping spots are also available.

Ettalong Beach
Ettalong Beach is located on the calm and shallower waters of Broken Bay.  It is the ideal spot for swimming and enjoying watching the boats as they sail past offshore.  It is also known for its soft but firm sand which makes it good for walking. The Palm Beach Ferry runs a regular service across to Palm Beach from here.  The Ettalong Beach Memorial Club has a popular, large terrace which overlooks the water provide close to the perfect location. In Ettalong Village, you can drop enjoy the shops and, on the weekends, the market can be worth a visit.

Wamberal Beach
Wamberal Beach is a picturesque and unspoilt stretch of sand flowing round from Terrigal Beach.  You need to be aware of its surf conditions which can be quite challenging at times. Wamberal Lagoon is a protected fauna and flora sanctuary and provides a safer area for family activities.  This area is often an enjoyable escape from some of the more crowded beaches.
